BASF I Nunhems® Demo Days 2023 showcase portfolio and innovations for growers
Nunhem, Netherlands – September 25, 2023 BASF I Nunhems® has invited growers, plant raisers, processors, dealers and retail partners to its yearly Demo Days to get first-hand information on the company’s commercial seed assortment, novelties and innovative solutions on four demo fields. At Nunhem, where the company’s headquarters are located, the latest developments and innovative solutions for leeks, carrots and celeriac will be presented on demo fields. In addition, visitors to Nunhems’ location in 's-Gravenzande will be able to find out about both open-field cultivation as well as high-tech cultivation of leafies in hydroponic greenhouses.

Three new races of Bremia lactucae, Bl: 38EU, Bl: 39EU and Bl: 40EU identified and denominated in Europe
Bremia lactucae, or downy mildew, is a common plant disease in lettuce. This fungus can have a major impact on lettuce cultivation. Bremia lactucae, the causal agent of downy mildew in lettuce, is genetically very variable. Even within one lettuce production field, several races may be present.
The IBEB-EU evaluated Bremia lactucae isolates found in Europe in 2021 and 2022 and concluded that three candidate isolates provided consistent test results. The IBEB-EU decided to denominate these variants as Bl: 38EU, Bl: 39EU and Bl: 40EU.

Extremely high production in data-driven cucumber greenhouse BASF 's Gravenzande
Nunhem, 26 September 2022 - On 16 November 2021, the first high-wire cucumber crop was planted in the data-driven greenhouse of BASF's vegetable seed business in 's Gravenzande. The greenhouse was equipped with about 340 umol LED lights from Signify. The second and third crops were planted on 2 March 2022 and 15 June 2022, respectively.

Offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust Zuid inaugurated
Today, Dutch King Willem-Alexander jointly with board members of Vattenfall, BASF, and Allianz officially inaugurated the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust Zuid 1-4. The wind farm is in the North Sea, 18-36 kilometers off the Dutch coast between the towns of Scheveningen and Zandvoort. The 139 turbines have a total capacity of 1.5 GW, making it one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world.

BASF completes carve-out of mobile emissions catalysts and precious metals services businesses
BASF has completed the carve-out of its mobile emissions catalysts and precious metal services businesses and named the separate legal entity BASF Environmental Catalyst and Metal Solutions (ECMS). The company’s intention to carve out the entity was first announced in December 2021 with an expected completion timeframe of 18 months.

BASF’s earnings in tough market environment significantly below strong prior-year quarter
In a tough market environment, BASF Group sales in the second quarter of 2023 declined by 24.7 percent compared with the prior-year period to €17.3 billion. “We faced low demand from our key customer industries, except for automotive,” said Dr. Martin Brudermüller, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF, when presenting the results together with Chief Financial Officer Dr. Dirk Elvermann.
