Land preparation	Field should be ploughed and disked properly to eliminate debris and soil clods. Organic manures approximately FYM 15 t/aha or poultry manure/vermicompost 7.5 t/ha should be incorporated at the time of last ploughing.
Sowing Season	North: Mid Oct - Nov Central & South: Oct
Best Practices	It performs very well under high management conditions with drip/Sprinkler/Flood irrigation on elevated or ridge and furrow methods of planting. Flat bed cultivation with flood irrigation should be avoided. Best sowing window for rabi crop- 15th October to 15th November For best performance transplanting should be done before 1st week of January. Seedlings should be grown on raised beds for better germination and healthy seedlings.
Irrigation	Immediate irrigation after transplanting followed by 7-10 days interval depending upon soil and weather conditions is recommended. Irrigation intervals are wider during vegetative state. Withholding irrigation at 10-15 days before harvesting is recommended.
Nutrient Management (N:P:K)	About 15 tons of FYM together with 110 kg of N, 40 kg of P2O5, and 60 kg of K2O per ha is adequate. Application of 15 kg sulphur/ha is sufficient for growing onion crops. ZnSO4 @ 10 kg/ha as basal is recommended in areas having Zn deficiency. Borax @ 10 kg/ha is recommended for areas having boron deficiency.
Harvesting	Harvesting at one week after 50% top fall. After harvesting, cure the bulbs under shade and then cut the leaves 2-2.5 cm above the bulb after complete drying. Bulbs are stored in a well ventilated and dry place.
