Dutch Greenhouse Delta welcomes the first plant breeder as partner: BASF’s vegetables seeds business
- BASF vegetables seeds business joins high tech greenhouse network Dutch Greenhouse Delta (DGD)
- Opportunities to support customers in large-scale high-tech greenhouse projects and issues related to food and floriculture in the growing mega cities.
Dutch Greenhouse Delta has welcomed the first plant breeder as a partner in its network: BASF vegetables seeds business. The foundation is happy with this twentieth partner and wants to represent the full breadth of the Dutch horticultural sector internationally. BASF’s vegetables seeds business specializes in the breeding of 24 vegetable varieties and sells more than 1,200 varieties worldwide under the Nunhems brand name. In addition, they translate needs and trends into distinctive consumer-oriented vegetable concepts. The breeding company is known in the sector for its network with growers and the vegetable chain.
Harm Ammerlaan, Business Development Manager of BASF’s vegetable seeds business talks about the partnership:
“Within Dutch Greenhouse Delta, the knowledge of the chain is clustered in a strong partnership. Together with technical suppliers, we help growers to get the best out of their crops. This way we stay ahead in the ever-changing world. Large-scale complex turnkey projects are mainly found in countries where high-tech vegetable growing is increasing. To excel, we need to bring together agricultural and technical knowledge. Cooperation with the vegetable chain and good insights into the needs of consumers is necessary for success. In addition, we must, together with partners, constantly develop new vegetable concepts that consumers find healthy, tasty and useful. We want to build bridges from farm to fork. ”
Dutch Greenhouse Delta sees BASF as a real asset. Eric Egberts: “With BASF as partner, we can broaden our scope of the horticultural chain. From seeds, greenhouse construction, financing to logistics, we market all facets of the chain in three focus areas: China, India and the Stan countries. Only through cooperation in a consortium can we, as Dutch horticultural entrepreneurs, compete pre-competitively for complex horticultural projects. We are open to allowing more breeders and larger scientific companies to participate. Each country requires different expertise within our network. In addition, this can open new doors for everyone."
