Matahari - Everyone’s First Choice !

India is an agricultural country & Sabharmal is a true testimony of the same. For generations, his family has relied on farming as their source of livelihood. He has been associated with Nunhems for last 5 years. He owns a massive 9-acre field in Jaipur, Rajasthan where he grows crops like watermelon, onion, tomato, hot pepper. Talking about his experience with Matahari, a variety of Onion by Nunhems, he said, “Matahari is a variety that sells instantly in the market.”

Sabharmal calls Matahari a high-yielding variety characterized by dark red colour & consistent globe-like shape and uniform size. Even when the market response was low during the pandemic, Sabharmal sold Matahari comfortably while many struggled to do so. He was able to harvest a massive yield of 350 quintals per acre on an average. Matahari soon became immensely popular in his village & local markets. It dominates the market & is the first choice of farmers & traders alike, Sabharmal said.

Matahari has brought in exponential growth for Sabharmal. With each picking cycle, its demand is increasing & so is Sabharmal’s confidence in Nunhems. Such is the popularity of Matahari that traders now visit his home to procure as much fresh produce as possible, Sabarmal said.

Sabharmal is a progressive farmer making use of best growing practices like mulching, drip irrigation which has benefited him in terms of high yield and reduced labour costs.  He spoke highly of other varieties by Nunhems like MaxX watermelon, US 2853 tomato, Virat chilli & Santire onion.  Inspired by his prosperity, other farmers were quick to adopt Matahari & it has now become the preferred variety of his entire village!
